My Review (Like an Amazon Review)
Rating: 5 Stars I just finished this book, and wow, it's incredible! Suzanne Collins is back with a story that's even more gripping than before. I love how it focuses on Haymitch – in the main series, he's the boozy, bitter mentor, but here we see his beginnings: the love, the losses, and the battles that made him who he is. The games are brutal, with tons of mutts and nauseating Capitol politics, but there are some humorous and heartwarming moments sprinkled in to keep it from feeling too overwhelming.
The standout feature is how it connects to familiar characters like Plutarch or even Snow (in subtle ways). It makes me want to revisit the old books all over again! If you enjoyed The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this will be right up your alley – it expands the Panem universe brilliantly. Fair warning, though: it's heartbreaking and emotional, especially the ending that had me in tears. I sat there stunned for a bit after finishing.
The only minor drawback is that if you haven't read the main series, you might feel a little lost at times. But overall, it's a page-turner you can't put down. I give it a full 5 stars and highly recommend grabbing a copy. The audiobook is great too – the narration really amps up the feels!
